A seasoned leather craftsman and a software developer reconnected after Covid in 2022. One of the conversations at dinner was about an expensive leather mat that was purchased by the developer for his home office that had severely warped and became unusable in a matter of weeks.

Fast forward almost a year, after a lot of research, trial and  error, AlterRoom was launched. We bring a new standard to leather desk surfaces (mats and mouse pads).

Our craftsmen have been working with leather for many years. There is something almost magical about leather's unique qualities. It is  extremely durable, versatile, attractive, easy to work with, and sustainable. You simply can’t go wrong with it. We hear a lot of arguments that producing leather is cruel for the animals. You will be surprised. It is quite the opposite! Leather production is a perfect example of upcycling. Leather is a by-product of the milk and meat industry. Leather manufacturers help with disposal of hides. As a result, the associated environmental burden is avoided. Hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!
